What is Sierra Advantage's Web Privacy Service?
Privacy while surfing
the Internet has become a growing concern among web users. Advertisers actively
seek ways to gather information about your surfing habits. By exploiting features
built into the two most popular web browsers, Internet Explorer and Netscape
Navigator, these advertisers can obtain information about where you go on
the Internet and even what your e-mail address is. Our Web
Privacy Service prevents your browser from giving out
information about you. In addition, it blocks advertising and those annoying
pop-up windows.
How does it work?
We have set up
a server on our network which intercepts the communication between your computer
and the web site you are accessing. Our server filters out personal information
your computer may be giving out and blocks advertising and pop up windows
coming to your computer from the web site. All you have to do to set up this
service is configure your browser to use this intercepting server. Links to
instructions on how to configure your browser are listed below.
What kinds of
protection does this service provide?
- Filters out malicious code which alters your browser configuration.
- Filters out personal information your computer gives out to web sites.
- Blocks annoying animated graphics.
- Blocks advertising and pop-up windows.
