Crock of Beans

Ingredients:

2 Large cans pinto beans, drained and rinsed (this reduces flatulance)
1 large onion, chopped
1-2 cans chicken or beef broth
1 can (nonfat)refried beans
Optional:
1-2 cups chopped, cooked ham, hamburger, or poultry
1 small can tomato sauce
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Add the pinto beans, broth and onion to the crock pot. Add any optional ingredients too.
Cook 6-8 hours on low or 2-5 hours on high. Add the refried beans to thicken, more broth to thin.

 Helpful Hints & Tips:

The American Heart Association recommends eating legumes 3 times each week. This recipe is so easy. Just put everything in the crockpot before you go to work and whip up a batch of cornbread and you have an easy, healthy meal. Be sure any meat you add is low in fat.
